Psychological and Mental Health Clinic
Overview
Psychological evaluations are conducted by Licensed School Psychologists to help understand and address the learning needs of individual students, to help determine eligibility for services, to help develop instructional or behavioral plans for students, identify significant mental health concerns, or to determine eligibility for gifted programs or school readiness.
Evaluations include assessments of children’s intelligence, social-emotional development, and learning processing skills. Most times the psychological evaluation is combined with the learning evaluation (link) to determine eligibility for school programs.
Each evaluation includes interviews, observations in the classroom if applicable, detailed report of evaluation results, which include recommendations to address identified needs, and an interpretive conference. The psychologist also assists with educational/behavioral planning.
Licensed Professional Counselors are also available to conduct Individual and family therapy. Our licensed professional counselors utilize the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model, which proposes that a person’s thoughts and beliefs are responsible for their emotional and behavioral reactions to life experiences. If a person is experiencing thoughts that are in some way distorted or inaccurate, then that individual is prone to ineffectively dealing with stressful situations and/or developing a variety of psychological and interpersonal difficulties. Research indicates that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, post traumatic stress, personality, relationship and substance abuse difficulties.
Our clinicians teach clients the life skills essential for creating and living a healthy, emotionally stable, productive and successful life.
