Our Director, Kimberly Mooney, Ph.D, LDTC, LPC, works with individuals, families, and schools to identify
why the child or adult has difficulty learning, how the person learns best, and what can be done to help
the student become more successful.

DR. KIMBERLY MOONEY
Dr. Kimberly Mooney is an oral deaf individual, fluent in American Sign Language and Signed English.
Kimberly graduated from Montclair University in 1993 (Montclair, NJ) and earned her Ph.D in the education
of those with physical disabilities, with a specialty in the treatment of deaf/hard of hearing individuals,
from Columbia University in 2002 (New York, NY). After two years of post-doctoral training and supervision,
Dr. Mooney became a licensed professional counselor and now provides individual and family therapy to
hearing, non-hearing and physically disabled clients. Kimberly recently received additional training in
educational diagnosis at Montclair State University and was certified as a Learning Disability Teacher
Consultant (LTD-C) by the state of NJ. She is currently the founder and director of Signs of Success.
Dr. Mooney has had a broad range of professional experiences that have shaped both her clinical skills
as well as her educational diagnostic skills. Prior to establishing Signs of Success, Kimberly was a
teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, a special services coordinator, a college professor and a
counselor. In addition to her PH.D, Kimberly is a certified as an LDT-C, a teacher of the deaf,
Elementary School Teacher, Supervisor, and a Licensed Professional Counselor by the State of NJ.
Kimberly’s experience as a teacher provides the basis for her understanding of schools and her ability
to make recommendations that work in a school environment.
KRISTINE M. SIMMONS, M.S., CCC/SLP
Kristine
M. Simmons, a Speech-Language Pathologist since 1996, has spent the
majority of her career providing services for individuals with hearing
loss. Prior to earning her B.S. in Teacher of the Speech and Hearing
Handicapped in 1995 from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, she
volunteered at a school for the deaf through her high school's Gifted
and Talented Program. After earning her M.S. in Speech-Language
Pathology in 1996 from Ithaca College, she returned to the same school
for the deaf to complete her final
graduate school externship and accepted a position at that school as a
full time Speech-Language Pathologist. She is experienced with the
language, speech, and auditory training needs of populations ranging
from newborn to high school. In addition to working with students with
hearing loss, she has worked in the area of language and literacy
development, specifically phonemic awareness and story comprehension.
She has been an Adjunct Professor of American Sign Language at a local
community college for the past three years. During this time, she has
co-written the curricula for American Sign Language Levels I, II, and
III, and has written the Master Syllabi for all three courses. She is
part of a signing ministry, Hands of Faith, at the First Presbyterian
Church of Sparta, providing an interpreted service for those who
utilize sign language.
THOMAS ZANGAS, PH.D.
Dr.
Zangas completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Gallaudet
University in Washington, D.C. His expertise and interests
include assessment of children, adolescents and adults,
psycho-educational evaluations, neuropsychological testing and early
childhood assessments. He has extensive training and experience in
providing assessment services to Deaf and hard of hearing
clients. Dr. Zangas completed his pre-doctoral internship
training at Mount Sinai Services at Elmhurst Hospital and his
post-doctoral training at St. Joseph’s School for the Deaf in the
Bronx, NY. Dr. Zangas has also completed neuropsychological externships
at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and
at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He completed his B.A. in
Psychology at Hofstra University.
